Course Overview

Over two interactive days, participants will:

Learn to Recognise Early Signs: Identify common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, substance use, and the early warning signals of more severe conditions or crisis situations (including panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, or psychosis).

Build Understanding: Gain a deeper understanding of mental health conditions, their impact in the workplace, and how stigma can affect those experiencing difficulties.

Develop Confident Response Skills: Practice using step-by-step action plans to support a co-worker in distress, with role play, practical scenarios, and group discussions tailored to real workplace situations.

Respond to Mental Health Crises: Receive clear guidance on how to respond effectively to emergencies such as suicidal behaviours, self-harm, acute stress reactions, aggression, or substance misuse.

Encourage Professional Help and Ongoing Support: Learn how to encourage individuals to seek professional help, self-care strategies, and how to maintain supportive boundaries while linking workers to resources such as Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) or community services.

Understand Privacy and Confidentiality: Discuss legal and ethical considerations when supporting a co-worker—including confidentiality, consent, and the manager’s or colleague’s limits to involvement.
